Empowering Pakistani Women: Embracing Modern Trends

 I am a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.”

— Maya Angelou

Today, I will share my views in support of this stance that a Pakistani woman can attain her aspirations by following modern trends rather than social norms.

I will start with the quote of Diane Mariechild, that a woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.Yes ! I firmly believe that a woman who embraces modern trends rather than strictly adhering to traditional norms can give her financial freedom and individual success. Furthermore, she can contribute as a well informed and skillful workforce for Pakistan. We all knew that Pakistan is a masculine-dominated society where women face several social expectations and norms. These expectations include  domestic responsibilities, child bearing, early marriages, especially in rural areas. But fortunately, during the recent decades, Pakistan has undergone significant changes in social dynamics because of urbanization, globalization and increased access to education. Women are working shoulder to shoulder with men.Pakistani women are breaking barriers and excelling in diverse professions, serving as CEOs, psychologists, mountaineers, uber and careem drivers, restaurant owners, fighter pilots, civil servants, engineers, doctors, educators, lawyers, scientists, and entrepreneurs.

Fatima Jinnah ,the esteemed sister of Quaid e Azam, and Benazir Bhutto, who made history by becoming the first woman to head the government of a Muslim majority country, stand as pillars of inspiration. We have example of Lietunent General Nigar Johar as the first woman to achieve rank of 3 star general in Pakistan's military. Likewise, Justice Ayesha A. Malick as the first supreme Court Judge of Pakistan . Muniba Mazari who is an artist and motivational speaker. She has defied disability stereotypes and became the first Pakistani Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women. These women, along with others, are example of those empowered ladies who have embraced modern trends and shown to the world that women have potential to excel in diverse professions and leadership roles that are normally dominated by men.

Continuing with this perspective, modern education, technology and global connectivity opens doors for women to participate actively in various fields and provide them with opportunities to explore their talents and capabilities beyond traditional expectations. Moreover, adapting to modern trends allows Pakistani women to challenge stereotypes and promote gender equality and thus, women can inspire others to pursue their aspirations and foster a more inclusive and progressive society.

I will conclude with the quote of Gugu Mona that "Dear Superwoman, let no one demean your intelligence. Let no one dribble you from your happiness. Let no one derail you from success. Be a smart, courageous, and determined woman."

So, Embrace modernity, challenge norms, and let your potential shine.
